TRICON FILMS & TELEVISION AND MERCURY FILMWORKS ANNOUNCE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW ANIMATED SERIES GO AWAY UNICORN!
March 26th, 2013 — Tricon Films & Television and Mercury Filmworks announce the development of a new animated children 4-7 bridge series Go Away Unicorn! (52 x 11′) based on the popular children’s book written by author and illustrator Emily Mullock, and published by McKellar & Martin Publishing Group, which is co-owned by Meghan Hague and Tonya Martin. The series will be a Mercury Filmworks and Tricon Films & Television co-production with Tricon also serving as the international distributor.
The series follows the hilarious adventures of twins, Alice and Ollie, as they are swept up in the chaos unleashed by an exuberant unicorn and a timid dragon. Together they learn that differences are something to embrace and that friendship is sometimes found in the unlikeliest of places. Go Away Unicorn! is about discovering who you are when you dare to find out.
“Everyone who reads this book can’t help falling in love with Emily’s engaging characters, and we couldn’t have found a more talented partner than Mercury to adapt the story for television,” said Jon Rutherford, Senior Vice President Distribution and Business Development, Tricon Films & Television. “Mercury’s creative vision and impressive track record for bringing characters to life is second to none.”
“Working with Tricon has been a wonderful and highly collaborative experience,” says Mercury Filmworks President, Clint Eland. “Their dedication to quality kids programming and their world-wide distribution expertise is a perfect fit. We couldn’t have assembled a better team for this property.”
“Go Away, Unicorn! is one of those very special books that doesn’t come along often. To say we are thrilled to be working with Tricon and Mercury Filmworks doesn’t even begin to describe our excitement,” said Meghan Hague, Publisher & CEO, McKellar & Martin Publishing Group, Ltd. “We hope Unicorn holds as much magic for its new audience as it does for us!” Go Away Unicorn! will be presented to broadcasters during MIPTV this April.
